Activity Overview

The skincare industry is booming, with consumers turning to over the counter (OTC) skincare to improve the appearance and health of their skin. It is imperative that medical practitioners are familiar with the scientific evidence, efficacy, and safety of the different products to educate their patients.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for an audience of nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, and physician assistants.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Review the science supporting the use of general categories of skincare ingredients and monographed ingredients.

  • Identify what skincare products to recommend for different skin types and conditions.

  • Describe how to build a product regimen to achieve the goals for a particular patient.

  • Discuss the business of skincare and how to market it in your practice.

  • Review the skincare industry’s role in new product development, government’s role in skin care regulation, and the interplay of all stakeholders in determining the future of the industry.

  • Compare current and emerging therapies for the management and treatment of various skin conditions.
